About the Event

Flumieverse 1 – The Acoustic Soundscape is a unique two-day immersive workshop designed for beginners who wish to develop confidence and skill in the art of playing gongs with flumies (friction mallets).

This practical, hands-on workshop focuses on the fundamentals of flumie playing, helping participants discover how to create, control, and shape sound through specialised techniques. Working exclusively with acoustic instruments, you will explore resonance, dynamics, texture, and atmosphere while developing a solid foundation in expressive gong playing.

Limited to just four participants, the workshop offers an intimate learning environment with plenty of individual guidance, allowing each person to progress at their own pace and receive personalised support throughout the experience.

Rather than focusing on sound healing or therapy, the workshop centres on the art of sound itself. Through demonstrations, guided practice, and creative exploration, you will learn how different playing approaches influence tone, sustain, movement, and character, enabling you to create rich and engaging soundscapes using purely acoustic methods.

Participants will have access to an exceptional collection of Original Singing Gongs, Flumies (friction mallets).

Teaching is warm, supportive, and experience-led, with the intention that you leave feeling confident in your skills, inspired by the possibilities of the instruments, and connected to your own creative expression through sound.

Whether you are completely new to flumie playing or looking to deepen your understanding of the instrument, this workshop provides a strong foundation for developing your own unique relationship with sound and musical expression.

The workshop takes place on the edge of beautiful Snowdonia National Park in Mid-Wales, surrounded by mountains, forests, and stunning beaches just a short drive away—the perfect setting to relax, learn, and immerse yourself in sound.

An evening sound journey, hot drinks, and a delicious lunch are included.

Please note that accommodation is not included. As the workshop is held in a popular holiday destination area, participants are encouraged to book local accommodation as early as possible to ensure availability.
